Alan Caine

ALAN CAINE’S FIRST RETROSPECTIVE EXHIBITION “EVERYDAY WONDER TO REVELATION” IS AT CLARE HALL, CAMBRIDGE, FROM 10 OCTOBER TO 20 NOVEMBER. Details here
Alan wrote about his work in 2016: “An undercurrent of geometry joined to the colours of light can suggest fragments of a larger consciousness”.
He painted, and drew, what he saw around him: landscapes, trees, leaves, grasses, and the immediate objects that littered his studio like rugs, mopheads, knots, bundled cloth, tangled stems, eggs, shells. His exploration of ‘the wonder of the everyday’ reveals for us glimpses of what is beyond, or within, that “larger consciousness”.
Born in the American mid-west, Alan pursued degrees in Art and Theology from American universities and moved to England in the early 1970’s. He painted for more than 60 years, always exploring, looking deeper into his soul as well as into his techniques, so sustaining his exceptional breadth as an artist.
A dedicated teacher, he inspired students in and around Leicester through his studio classes and his immense knowledge of art and artists from all ages. He was a moving spirit in the conception, design and creation of the Attenborough Arts Centre.
